00h UTC; SATURDAY, 5 JANUARY 2013: In what may be a most unlikely move for Hormel Foods, maker of such iconic brands as SPAM luncheon meat, Dinty Moore beef stew, Cure81 hams, Mary Kitchen canned hash and Hormel Chili, among others (as well as the American distributor for Herdez Mexican foods), they've made an offer for Skippy Peanut Butter, among several brands being disposed of by global foods and detergents conglomerate Unilever in the interest of streamlining its range.

Something Hormel ought think about for its bid (subject to regulatory approval) is that Joan Crosby Tibbetts, the daughter of cartoonist Percy Crosby (1891-1964), has taken issue with the makers of Skippy Peanut Butter over the years (back when it was owned by Unilever and, before that, Best Foods) vis-a-vis Unlawful Trademark Infringement over the comic strip character that her father created for newspapers the world over from 1923 until 1947, eventually inspiring a novel, an Oscar-winning movie, a daily radio series and much in the way of licenced merchandise (including the aforementioned Skippy Peanut Butter, which debuted in 1932) ... but which, in the end, would be his ruin, eventually leading him to alcoholism, a suicide attempt and eventual commitment to an insane asylum.

(One thing as is worth knowing: Skippy Peanut Butter became an instant sensation because of its manufacturing process, "Improved by Hydrogenation" to the extent that such was actually smoother and not as oily as what passed for peanut butter in his day.)

Memo to such in the "Tea Party" ranks who insist on industry self-regulation as being the best and most cost-efficient way to "reclaim prosperity" and "reward innovation" within the paradigm of ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe such as they love to cherish as a Holy of Holies vis-a-vis Our National Character and Identity as a Peculiar Among the Nations, in its turn "magically" translating into jobs creation and lower prices: I refer you to the "Sick Chicken" case (as in Schechter Poultry Corp. v. United States, vintage 1935), whence the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the industry-based "fair competition" codes authorised under the National Recovery Act (as in the "Blue Eagle" logo), an early piece of FDR's "New Deal" legislation, were unconstitutional per the Separation of Powers doctrine and the Commerce Clause.

Likewise to West Coast Hotel Co. v. Parrish, vintage 1937, whence the Supreme Court upheld, 5-4, a mininum-wage law in Washington state under the doctrine that protecting the health, safety and welfare of the community or of vulnerable persons trumped ekonomesie vryheid, &c., citing as precedent their 1906 ruling in Mueller v. Oregon as upheld an Orgeon law limiting the hours and types of work women could perform.

So much for the "Tea Party" mythos that such is a "grass-roots," "people-centred" even, movement supported solely by the small contributions of "REAL AmeriKKKans:" Mother Jones magazine is revealing where one major "TeaParty" sugar daddy, FreedomWorks, is actually a corporatist SuperPAC funded by corporate interests to advance a quasi-Fascist agenda and related articles of faith while officially presenting themselves as being "born out of the Volk to serve the Volk" not unlike the Afrikaner Broederbond during its Luscious Glory of quasi-Masonic secrecy and discretion under especially the heighth of apartheid's depravities down South Africa way, said secrecy being seen as necessary in the name and interests of the Volk they were claiming to represent. (Especially distressing among its revelations: Much of its 2013 budget being allocated to prolefeed efforts through Glenn Beck's online prolefeed conduit, TheBlaze.com, as well as Rush Limbaugh's belaguered talkback radio programme, by way of "cash-for-comments" campaigns expected to be kept discreet.)

And One Thing More (Appy Polly Loggies to the late Paul Harvey there): If "Tea Party" types are forever adamant about expecting their target audience of "poor whites" to "empower themselves" all the more based on the disciplines of Industry, Self-Reliance, Personal Responsibility, Thrift (preferably according to Cash Economy) and A Wholesome and Simple Home Life they cherish "deeply and dearly" as The AmeriKKKan Way, then why aren't they actually leading the effort by launching viable initiatives as can actually empower the "poor white" through jobs creation and economic development (as opposed to the perversion thereof taking forms of "cashflow gifting clubs" using such permutations as "Aeroplane," "Dinner Party," "Pit Stop" and suchlike to disguise the potentially illicit intent)?
