21h20 UTC; TUESDAY, 11 FEBRUARY 2014: By now, you've probably heard on the news about the passing in the night of 1930's child film star (and later diplomat) Shirley Temple (Black) from natural causes at 85 years of age.

Which is enough to point out at this time where, before she was that model of chaste and pure cinematic wholesomeness as made her popular with Depression-weary film audiences of the 1930's, she appeared in hyperjuvenile satires of films and current events of the days known collectively as the Jack Hays Baby Burlesk series, of which nine shorts were produced in the 1931-33 period; Shirley Temple starred primarily as the female lead, usually doing a tacky musical number. But perhaps her best appearence in the Baby Burlesks would have to be in 1933's Polly Tix in Washington, a satire of Depression-era political shennanigans, as a floozie in the pay of the Nipple Trust and the Castor Oil Lobby sent to seduce a tenderfoot senator from "the boonies" elected on an ur-populist ticket.

In tribute, then, enjoy this badly-colourised version of Polly Tix in Washington from YouTube, which may still have some significance in these Interesting Times:

Those of you as are seeking jobs out there, especially such as are "chronically and habitually government-dependent" and are under orders by their Vocational Guidance Counsellor to continue job-search efforts despite a dearth of jobs in the community, should read this important item from DailyKos.com as exposes several scams which could ensnare unwitting jobseekers all the more--and from reputable companies, come to think of it.

As for the concept of "empowering the poor to help themselves"
out of "chronic government dependency," never mind such being a Sanctii Sanctorum among certain conservatives of late, why does it seem that they regard cooperativism to be a Bad Word in this respect? Is it fear that such could undermine the natural interconnexion of ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe with Our National Character and Identity as a Sovereign Peculiar Among the Nations, not to mention weaken the role of said ekonomesie vryheid, &c., as an agent of National Unity and Identity as a Peculiar Among the Nations--all the while insisting, after the Afrikaans, that 'n Volk red homself?

Finally, Your Correspondent has to wonder if the following amounts to a more realistic ideal which opponents to same-gender marriages must (howbeit quietly) have in mind when it comes to "defending the sanctity and sachristy of [heterosexual] marriage" and, in its turn, Traditional Morals, Decency and Common Sense:
