16h UTC; WEDNESDAY, 19 JUNE 2013: First off, readers, an Appy Polly Loggy for such who are here for the online shopping angle:

In case you weren't aware of it by now, the State of Minnesota will start collecting sales tax on online purchases from July 1st--the which, know, doesn't quite sit well with Amazon.com, which still insists that extending sales tax as applied to more conventional retailers to online purchases is "unconstitutional" and violates the doctrine of a "level playing field" vis-a-vis ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe such as Amazon subscribes to.

For the moment, Amazon.com will not be accepting affiliates from The Gopher State, Your Correspondent included, pending some sort of legal resolution and challenge; hence, all Amazon.com banners have, for the most part, been removed from this website in the interim. As for the other e-tailers with whom this weblog is affiliate with, I am unaware of any advice to the moment vis-a-vis the situation in Minnesota to temporarily remove affiliate links ahead of the July 1st effective date therefor.

And speaking of adjustments to tax rate in Minnesota, also from July 1st, cigarette taxes will increase by $1.71/pack ($17.10/carton), with corresponding tax rate adjustments for cigars, cigarillos, pipe and hand-rolling cigarette tobacco and moist snuff. Which doesn't exactly sit well with such specimens of "REAL AmeriKKKanism" seeing smorking as one with "cultural heritage and identity."

Critics stateside of proposed immigration reforms
in Our Dear Lovely AmeriKKKa would certainly love the news out of Saudi Arabia, where foreign guest workers handling, by and large, the pis aller resident Saudis choose not to do are being asked to have their visa and work permit status checked and in proper order by July 3rd under pain of deportation and reassignment of their positions to underemployed locals. A situation as is made worse by way of costly fees to "employment agencies" in their home countries (mostly across the Muslim world, with Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines predominant in this respect) and, once in Saudi Arabia, having their employers confiscate their passports, in effect reducing such "guest workers" to bond-slavery whence they cannot escape from, especially should abuse, maltreatment, cruelty or even gross mismanagement (including non-payment or short-payment of wages due) ensue.

So the "Tea Party" and "9/12" types see their mission as a quasi-sacred crusade having extra-religious overtones excusing the deification of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in service to their articles of faith: Perhaps they may want to do well, out of fairness, to include among their deities the likes of such right-wing-leaning majordomos as Chile's General Augusto Pinochet, Portugal's Alberto Salazar, pre-Castro Cuba's Fulgencio Batista, even the apartheid South African martyr Hendrik Verwoerd, for that matter.

Especially when you consider that there's probably some specimens of Unreconstructed Afrikanerdom down South Africa way as are likely seeing Verwoerd, who was stabbed to death by an aide ahead of a policy speech in 1966, as a martyr who died "for the sins of the Afrikaner."

Some thoughts about a core "Tea Party" article of faith as insists that the Lower Classes deemed "chronically and habitually dependent upon government" need to be "weaned away all the more" therefrom, and By Any Means Necessary: How do you expect such to be made possible without giving them some motivation, tools or resources to help such along? Are you insisting that such "only perpetuates the culture of dependency to the point of enslavement," as if insisting that such "need to turn to themselves alone" towards such Luscious Glory of "REAL AmeriKKKanism" (the old 'n Volk red homself patsy, as it were)?

(Especially so such as avoids their being tricked or lured into "work-from-home" and "work online" schemes as seek to exploit such otherwise well-intentioned aims for profit, with no real intention of actually offering anything remotely resembling work experience.)

Finally, with Winona Steamboat Days now on through the weekend (notwithstanding the possibility of off-and-on thunderstorms which may cross into the severe throughout, as could play havoc with many of the events so scheduled), Your Correspondent begs your indulgence if there aren't as many, or as timely, postings here in the interim.
