18h UTC; TUESDAY, 24 SEPTEMBER 2013: In case you haven't heard by now, the Attorney-General's Office in New York state has "busted" no less than 19 different businesses for False Advertising and Deceptive Business Practices by employing homeworkers (some residing outside the United States, not even having been here to begin with) to post glowing-sounding business reviews to the likes of Yelp.com, Citysearch.com, Yahoo! Local, Google+ and suchlike consumer-driven business review sites in exchange for payments ranging from $1/post to gift cards for as much as $150 for especially glowing reviews. And to deny in said reviews having received said payola.

(Preference being given to members of such review sites with especially good review records, as well as being able to manipulate their URL address to avoid detection by the algorithms of such sites as are designed to seek out and delete suspiciously-spammy reviews. Which an executive at Yelp acknowledged was not all that easy, but at the same time manages to accomplish.)

In the end, it all came down to a desire of said businesses to maximise their rank and standing in online directories and search engines through the miracle of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), the ultimate end of which is to present a positive and glowing picture of one's business (especially such as turn out being of the worst possible sort, and want nothing less than a "sunny nobility" therefor By Any Means Necessary)--at a cost of $350,000 in aggregate thanks to out-of-court settlements.

Which brings up a rather absurd delusion certain conservative prolefeeders love to have about their so-called "REAL AmeriKKKa"--rural or small-town, "poor white" for the most part, bastions of Traditional Moral and Familial Values as Will Save Thy Dear and Lovely Nation; Arcadia, as they see it--being somehow "morally and racially incapable" of harbouring dysfunctionalism. Which, it turns out, is more often than not the case.

Which is made all the worse by:
  • Want of realistic job or employment opportunities, or even a desire by the scions of Babbittry to attract industry;
  • Limited educational opportunities as make it difficult, if not impossible, to learn core skills essential to employment or business success;
  • Hard-wired to the point of latent Low Church Christian beliefs holding high carnival;
  • A climate of willful and deliberate poverty, fecundity and ignorance being regarded as "healthy" and "virtuous", in some cases for whole generations;
  • A "see something, say nothing" status quo which unwittingly condones corruption, waste, fraud, mismanagement, racketeering and its byproducts, reinforced by latent fear and paranoia of "reprisals" (in particular "Heathering," "shunning" or even being asked to commit oneself to the state asylum for the insane) for those who dare challenge "unwritten tradition"; and
  • The likes of jingoistic patriotism, xenophobic nativism, anti-Semitism, racism, sexism and homophobia latent in the populace as can be exploited, manipulated even, as deemed necessary.
As for the notion that a "healthy and nutritious" respect for ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe as one with Our National Character and Identity as a People and Nation can serve as ideal "preemptive" for further excesses of dysfunctionalism, especially when based on the ideal of "a people alone rescuing itself" solely by its own tools and resources--in your dreams. Especially with Walmart essentially decimating small business across this "REAL AmeriKKKa" ye seem to cherish and hold dear as a Holy of Holies.

In the immortal words of the late John Cameron Swayze
as concluded every broadcast
of the Camel News Caravan (NBC-TV, 1949-1956),
"That's the story; glad we could get together ..."
