17h30 UTC; MONDAY, 21 APRIL 2014: With Pat "700 Club" Robertson claiming on air this morning that Jeebus told him that an asteroid will hit the Earth within measurable distance (i.e., within the next week), ushering in the Final Judgment and His Second Coming, how do we know it isn't really Al Cohol in the guise of Jeebus, taking advantage of Robertson's declining age, power and influence?

One Supreem Court case as is certain to be watched by especially the Zealots and True Believers in ekonomesie vryheid van ons styl as one with AmeriKKKan National Character, Unity and National and Sovereign Identity as a Peculiar Among the Nations by Divine Will and Endowment: Oral arguments are set to be heard today in a case where POM Wonderful, itself no stranger to complaints about False/Misleading Advertising and Unsubstantiated Claims, especially vis-a-vis the health benefits of their pomegranite juice, is suing The Coca-Cola Company over its Minute Maid Pomegranite-Blueberry Juice, and whether it contains the juices as advertised and claimed (notwithstanding where pictures of the fruits in question appear prominently on the label).

POM, for its part, seeks action under the Lanham Act, vintage 1946, for Fraudulent and Deceptive Marketing; by contrast, Coca-Cola contends that Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the claims and representations made for its product are more than adequate regulation enow.

And we can just imagine the forces of conservative Zealotry and True Belief working overtime to outdo itself in the hyperbole and paranoia about the Clear and Present Threat to ekonomesie vryheid, &c., as they contend it to be. Especially where such is used as prolefeed targeting the vulnerable and ignorant.

To Engrishfy one of Monty Python's more obscure yet nonetheless hilarious lines, "
Strangle new grasslands and split neck movement, art critic and his wife": Yesterday being Easter Sunday, Your Correspondent was able to spend the afterlunch at Easter dinner with a close brother of his--as a matter of fact, the closest such living to our common 92-year-old mother (who, BIoN, surprised all of us with her presence in spite of bladder problems as would ordinarily keep her in a nursing home on the day; she may have gained gray hairs for the most part, but has lost none of her charm and dignity).

As well, a nephew and niece of mine, via said brother, and their kith and kin, came along for the dinner (which, with this bro, extended to ham basted in ginger ale, two varieties of baked potatoes, Jell-O salad with mandarin oranges, corn, rolls, and--following a reasonable delay--two varieties of dessert). And believe you me, his ham has a rather snappy taste to it which makes it all the more delectable.

Occasional showers punctuated the drive down, but things started to clear somewhat on the way back (though not without some measure of fogginess, but not all that severe). All in all, having the opportunity to see my own mother for the first time in over a year was something of a highlight in its own right, what with her having had some health issues in the interim (including such with pressure sores and the design-life-expiring nature of the hip implant) that have started turning around considerably. But still, though, inevitably, her time will come.
