16h30 UTC; SUNDAY, 24 NOVEMBER 2013: Reader, I should acknowledge at this time a nod to The Muppet Show as inspiration for the styling of this post, and in particular the soap-opera parody segment "Veterinarians' Hospital", probably one of the funnier parts of the show thanks to its pun-heavy humour and wisecrackery, mostly thanks to Rowlf (as "Dr. Bob") being the punmeister in charge.

However, there are obviously more serious issues to hand as cross the blogger's mind, and this time is no exception whatsoever. Witness, for one, where a breakthrough came about overnight on an international agreement as allows for the relaxation of trade sanctions against the so-called "Islamic Republic of Iran" in exchange for Tehran agreeing to shut down one heavy-water atomic reactor as part of its suspected nuclear-weapons scheme, and instead using the atomic programme for peaceful civilian ends (with the right reserved to reinstate the sanctions if deemed necessary). Which, naturally, doesn't sit well with the Jeebus-shouter chorus otherwise known as the "Tea Party," "9/12" and "Christian Patriot" camp, and their fellow-travellers among the ranks of "poor whiteism" too dependent upon Fox News and similar conservative prolefeed outlets for their own best interests (as witness the following graphic via Facebook):

Meanwhile, House Budget Committee Chairman (and Mitt Romney's Vice-Presidential wannabe in Indecision 2012), otherwise known as Representative Paul Ryan (GOP/WI), has come out with a rather puerile Op-Ed in The Washington Post suggesting that "the poor need Jeebus and not Food Stamps," in essence echoing the Afrikaner Nationalist-sponsored Reddingsdaadbond movement seeking to save South Africa's "poor whites" (Afrikaners specifically) from themselves by empowering themselves along ethno-national lines based on "Christian Nationalist" ideals towards the Luscious Glory of socioeconomic control of their destinies for the Luscious Glory of die Volk, best achieved according to the discipline encapsulated in the Afrikaans battle-cry of 'n Volk red homself ("a people rescues itself") first and foremost.

As for the "AmeriKKKa Should Be More Like China" crowd, they might find interesting where Beijing municipal authorities are now starting to gradually reduce the number of new automotive registrations they'll be issuing annually over the next several years. As in only 240,000 new registrations this year, 150,000 next year, and so on until such is essentially "zeroed out" in the interest of limiting traffic congestion and automotive exhaust pollution, with its effects on the quality of life and socioeconomic development.

As well, Beijing is joining Guangzhou in imposing automotive access restrictions on private cars one day a week, based on the last digit of one's number plate. That, and having in place emergency measures in case of elevated air pollution levels as will limit vehicle access to odd- or even-numbered registry plates, depending on the day, for the duration of the alert.

It's not known if Beijing authorities have designs on expanding public transportation (especially commuter rail and/or buses) from suburban areas especially as part of these traffic-mitigation measures; suffice it to say, though, that China's socioeconomic growth in recent years has translated into an increased affluence as has led many of its emerging middle class to buy automobiles and learn to drive ... and without due regard on the part of authorities for the potential socioeconomic price in terms of traffic congestion, increased commute times, increased air pollution risk, &c.

What hast thou to say now?
