18h UTC; MONDAY, 5 AUGUST 2013: Make no mistake about it: The same specimens of right-wing Zealotry and True Belief who see the destruction of our "morally-superior" socioeconomic paradigm by Any Means Necessary to "save" such must certainly be the same who (though not publicly for the moment) would love to push the trope of "free trade is the new foreign aid."

Preferably when packaged under such "feel-good" delusions as "Co-Prosperity," which fails to consider where the likely inspiration therefor, Japan's pre-World War II delusion known as the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere", was structurally flawed from the get-go, designed largely to benefit Japan (in particular the zaibatsu industrial cartels) at the expense of its then-colonies in Taiwan, Korea and Manchuria (and its designs on replacing the Euro-centrist colonial influences in the East Asia region with an Asia-centrist model), seen but as cannon-fodder for raw material and cheap labour.

Come to think of it, these same weird and unwholesome types, the Dregs of Society in private while openly claiming to be the True Patriots Out to Reclaim Thy Dear Lovely Nation, would also enjoy seeing the same "Co-Prosperity" trope applied to supposed initiatives they must have in mind for "saving REAL AmeriKKKa [i.e., the ever-increasing ranks of "poor whiteism"] from itself***based on the principles of free-enterprise [ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe]" ... which, it turns out (taking clear pains all the while to avoid letting slip the obvious), is actually modelled on the very same Afrikaner Ekonomesie Beweging promoted by Afrikaner nationalists down South Africa way in the wake of their manufactured appeal to ethno-national solidarity known as die Tweede Trek and the subsequent Eerste Ekonomesie Volkskongres as begat apartheid as sought to rescue the "poor white" element, Afrikaner for the most part, out of poverty and into socioeconomic empowerment.

NewHistory.co.za, an online history of South Africa seeking to present an impartial historical perspective thereof, explained in a sidebar to an article on the "poor whiteism" phenomenon of the 1930's what South Africans saw as "poor whiteism":
The Carnegie Commission tried to describe and defi ne the phenomenon of poor whiteism. J.R. Albertyn, author of a report on poor whites, described them as people who were law-abiding, religious and anxious to keep the family together, but also lacking in ambition, thrift and prudence, and inclined to be gullible, dishonest, deceitful, irresponsible, lazy and listless. In his education report E.G. Malherbe defined a poor white as a person "who has a mental attitude towards life, owing for example to lack of intelligence, lack of education, temperamental defects or to physiological conditions, which prevents him rising to or maintaining a decent standard of living when exposed to the economic forces around him". But he also defined white poverty in relative terms. "A very appreciable portion of our white population," he wrote, "is sinking below the economic standard of living which we consider that a white man should maintain by virtue of his white skin over the native." Poor whiteism, in other words, was a racial problem as well as a social one.
(Specifically, reference was to a 1932 report by the Carnegie Commission on the "Poor White" Problem in South Africa and its effects on especially the Afrikaner Volk, which the then-British-influenced government saw as little better than Freaks and Travesties of Nature, though technically considered "white.")

And pray, how exactly would the concept of "Co-Prosperity," as applied to 21st-century American conditions and changing socioeconomic paradigms, actually help in "empowering poor whites" so as to "save them from continued government dependency bordering on enslavement"--especially when such is structured to perpetuate gross wealth disparities, contempt for the educational system, cartel behaviour excused as "business as usual" and worse? Let's hope this article stimulates some serious debate.
