18h20 UTC; MONDAY, 20 JANUARY 2014: The question that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jnr. (1929-1968) asked as above, especially given that today is the day given over to remembering his name, works and legacy, may indeed be worth some serious pondering among those of us who insist on being seen as Real Americans in the face of certain misguided and delusional conservative prolefeeders approriating the term vis-a-vis the worst specimens of "poor whiteism" having an exaggerated packaging of themselves.

One which is designed, methinks, for diversionary and distractive ends, seeking as it does in the end to shield this manufactured "REAL AmeriKKKa" from the harsh light of what is Reality and embrace instead a manufactured ideal best predicated on that encapsulated in the Afrikaans term Volkseenheid ("natural unity of a people"), as coined by Afrikaner Nationalists in the wake of their manufactured exercise in Ethno-National Cohesion and Identity from 1938 known as Die Tweede Trek, which saw nine ox-drawn wagons retrace the Voortrek across the Karoo into the Highveld. Itself begetting the Afrikaner Ekonomesie Beweging, as developed behind closed doors at the Eerste Ekonomesie Volkskongres ("First People's Economic Congress") at Bloemfontein in October 1939.

The which, know, was developed by the hyper-secretive, Freemasonic even, Afrikaner Broederbond and affiliated entites in what they saw to be the Name and Behalf of the Afrikaner Volk (as was the stock excuse the Broederbond had to explain its secrecy), in particular such specimens of Afrikanerdom as were caught up in the throes of "poor whiteism" made all the worse by the Great Depression's global effects, many rural Afrikaners being driven to find work in the cities (only to face "unfair labour competition" by the Native and Coloured elements)--and, so Afrikanerdom was expected to believe all the more, the British breathing down the neck of South Africa in its "unnatural and unhealthy" control of the South African economy, with the inevitable pandering to latent anti-Semitic feelings encapsulated in the form of "Hoggenheimer," an obese, filthy, English-speaking Jew of Golders Green not expected to have due regard for God's Chosen People in Africa, as the Afrikaner was perennially being taught to see themselves as.

For starters, the Afrikaner Ekonomesie Beweging's agenda (if it could be called such) insisted that any type of State or charity assistance to the poor was "enslaving" and only risked "poor whiteism" being made worse. Hence, their ideal lay in appealing to this supposedly latent and natural Volkseenheid to come together in a Reddingsdaad ("rescue deed") campaign which sought to channel its own will and resources to save the Afrikaner from themselves essentially.

And how the Afrikaner was expected to achieve it was to package such as a Mission from God to the masses through the Reddingsdaadbond ("Rescue Deed Union"), whose mission was one of empowering the Afrikaner socioeconomically as well as culturally, for one by calling upon Afrikaners to "buy Afrikaner" (as in patronising businesses owned by their own kind and insisting that same use Afrikaans in their business dealings and advertising).

For another, creating out of a collection taken up as part of Die Tweede Trek a new form of investment house, Federale Volksbeleggings (FVB; "Federal People's Investments") by name, to acquire failing business as could be recast "according to Afrikaner principles," invest in viable Afrikaner business startups, and promote Afrikaner enterprise through the leverage of "idle monies" as otherwise held in banks, building societies, savings clubs, insurance companies, &c., expected to do their part for the FVB through participation in same, into "productive capital." The whole expected, as one Afrikaner Nationalist leader saw it, to "pay its dividends in cash and not in pious words."

Said Afrikaner enterprise expected to assume a new, "people-centred" (as it were) model to be known as Volkskapitalisme ("people's capitalism"), the aim of which was to help the Afrikaner to help himself through fellow Afrikaners employing and training their own kind in need of work, thereby creating for the Afrikaner a "natural right of dominance" economically and the creation of Afrikaner purchasing power, rather than emphasising mere wealth creation and accumulation for the benefit of a few.

Good theory--but in actual application, as time wore on, such was essentially the door to creating a "crony capitalism" as exploited certain "natural synergies" that the Broederbond had with the life insurer Sanlam (as managed the FVB funds and, later, created the Bonuskor unit trust, itself packaged as one with "doing the Volk and Nation a favour" by further promoting Afrikaner enterprise investment; by 1961, a second such unit trust, Sankor, was hived off Bonuskor) and the Volkskas bank, originally created in 1934 as a mutual bank aimed at financially empowering the Afrikaner (eventually demutualised in 1941 to improve its business model, now part of ABSA), replete with inherent appeals to racism and nativism as were at the heart of that Luscious Glory of Afrikaner Nationalism known as apartheid, which essentially sought Afrikaner payback for a long and boring litany of Afrikaner grievances against the British going back to their seizing control of the Cape of Good Hope colony in 1828, eventually forcing the Voortrek in the first place, culminating in the Boer War of 1899-1902 (and the British maltreatment of whole Boer families in concentration camps, many such dying of malnutrition and sickness) and the "persecution" and "martyrdom" of Boer War "hero" Jopie Fourie in 1921 for attempted insurrection.

All the while being seen as Divinely-Endorsed and -Ordained in line with the Calvinist theological stream as was founded in their Dutch Reformed Church faith pious, humble and noble (or so their propaganda went), the fact of which wasn't lost on Christian Right extremists sympathetic to the apartheid regime's agenda (especially where State-sanctioned sadism against the "inferior" black population was deployed, such as at Sharpeville and Soweto, in the name of God, Motherland and Race), especially so from the 1970's on in the face of calls for international sanctions against the apartheid regime in reply to its maltreatment of ANC leader Nelson Mandela in prison for "high treason" and "incitement to violence against the State."

Such, unfortunately, is the "REAL AmeriKKKan" Economic Agenda conservatives really have in mind for "saving the poor and chronically government-dependent from themselves" based on what they perceive as being ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe as one with AmeriKKKan National Character and Identity as a Sovereign Peculiar Among the Nations as of Divine Right and Endowment.

But they don't want you to know of its origins in an overzealously self-conscious band of "poor whites" with exaggerated Delusions of Grandeur, or even its eventual interconnexion to apartheid and its articles of faith as were best encapsulated in the expression "sovereignty within our own sphere" (as suggested that the Afrikaner was entitled "as of natural right" to live exclusively among their own kind, with their own institutions, schools, governance, faith traditions, values, language [Afrikaans] and worldview--in short, in their own hermetrically-sealed version of God's Zion expected to see the Afrikaner as Pious and Humble Farmers and Pastoralists Guided Solely by the Divinely-Ordained Will of God, caring only about themselves and themselves alone, any deviance therefrom to be seen as one with a Loathsome Disease Threatening Afrikaner Dominion and Hegemony).

And the question we want to ask them is, "Why?"

And is there anything better we Real Americans can start with to "save the poor from themselves" based on the doctrines of Reddingsdaad itself based on a larger concept of Helpmekaar ("helping each other"), as if hoping to diss off such Zealots and True Believers in hyperconservatism seeing "self-help as the best help" the Last and Best Hope for the Poor to Save Themselves from Themselves in the bargain? Or am I being too rhetorical here?
