18h UTC; THURSDAY, 11 JULY 2013: In case you haven't heard by now, Pat "700 Club" Robertson was overheard on his (pseudo)ministry yesterday calling for the United States military to stage an Egypt-stylee coup d'etat within measurable distance in the name of "saving Our Dear Lovely Nation" from further ruin and betrayal of Our Antient and Peculiar National and Sovereign Identity at the hands of President Obama--hoping that the Presidential role would be assumed by someone of the Hendrik Verwoerd model, seeking to call out of abeyance apartheid South Africa's former title of "God's Own Country," as if insisting that the defence of Traditional Christian Values and Honour was also one of ekonomesie vryheid met Amerikaanse eienskappe, itself expected to condone racism, sexism, nativist jingoism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia rivalled only by the Juche Idea out of North Korea in defence therefor.

Something that the overly blatant specimen of AmeriKKKan Exceptionalist xenophobe needs to ponder: The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) hath it in a new report that collegians in our "morally superior" United States will not only be subjected to substantial debt to cover college expenses that they're unlikely to pay down in their lifetimes, but are making potentially unwise and inapproriate choices of secondary education as are unlikely to prepare them for careers in later life. Which could get only worse for such whose "education" is of the Christian National Homeschooling stylee, emphasising manufactured "values" through a syllabus right out of apartheid South Africa at the expense of core skills.

Said "values," know, including "Biblically-justified" racism, sexism, jingoism, nativism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and xenophobia such elements see as essential to the maintenance of ekonomesie vryheid, &c., in a Luscious Glory of AmeriKKKan National Character and Identity as a Sovereign Peculiar Among the Nations as of Divine Will and Edict.

For our "AmeriKKKa Should Be More Like China" brethren comes word of the world's single largest structure, the 1.76 million square metre (7.75 million sq. ft.) and 500m on all sides long Chengdu New Century Global Centre in the Sichwuan provincial capital, a/k/a the City of Pandas, now in final stages of preparation ahead of formal opening. Which, by all measures, will make the Mall of America and all the waterparks in Wisconsin Dells look puny by contrast; New Century Global Centre is expected to include:
  • China's single largest shopping, dining and entertainment complex under roof;
  • a 14-screen multiplex cinema including two IMAX screens;
  • a simulated Mediterranean-stylee village;
  • the world's single largest indoor ice rink (as can accomodate international figure-skating and ice hockey competitions); and
  • the world's largest indoor waterpark (250,000 sq. metres), featuring the world's largest indoor wavepool (400 metres long) backed by the world's largest LED display screen as will display continuous sunrise and sunset images.
Also out of China: Visitors there are now being warned against hiring unlicenced ("black") tour guides in especially Beijing (and, perhaps, other major cities, among them Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Xi'an and Chengdu) after word emerged on their "harmonised" microblogging service Weibo about one such threatening to slash with a knife  such tourists as didn't spend enough time shopping in the souvenir stands at the Great Wall of China and the Ming Tombs ... and also of interest to this same element, via BBC Monitoring's China Media Roundup (especially given where many conservatives pushing such a trope are forever insisting, as per Michael Savage, that "liberalism is a mental disorder"):
The Beijing News exposes how many impoverished and helpless families are forced to cage or chain up mentally ill relatives or send them to asylums to be caged, despite a new law in May banning the restriction of freedom of mental health patients.

The newspaper recounts the plight of Liu Yuegui, an 85-year-old schizophrenic man in Xingtai, Hebei province, who was rescued in 2009 after living in an asylum cage for 10 years. However, his family had to resort to locking him in a cage again after he was sent home for fear that he would become violent.

The Beijing News also reveals oppressive conditions and overcrowding at a mental hospital in Guangxi. An escape by 42 men last Friday triggered public suspicion over whether patients at the facility were petitioners who were not mentally ill.
(FYI, the articles linked to are in Chinese, and any translation attempt using, say, Google Translate may only turn out being rather hilarious given the potential inaccuracy of machine-based translations.)

And in seeking to reinforce "Tea Party" delusions of grandeur insisting that only Fortune 500 companies, rather than small businesses, are best equipped to create jobs such as will "reclaim prosperity" and "wean the Lower Classes off further government dependency"--preferably spontaneously and wholeheartedly, or so they think--expect many such politicos to invoke Oliver Wendell Holmes' poetical tale of the Deacon's One-Hoss Shay as "ran a hundred years to a day" before suddenly falling apart as it did as "logical evidence" of this notion. (As Holmes is quick to point out, the shay's collapse occured exactly 100 years to the day--and at the exact moment, besides--that a devastating earthquake destroyed the Portugese capital of Lisbon, forever changing its topography.)

What they're forgetting, however, is that such companies expected to so create jobs are also expected to pay substantial kickbacks disguised as "campaign contributions," invoking Citizens United in defence of the scheme--more than likely channelled into offshore bank accounts "for tax reasons" or some such canard.
